Silverleaf Skull
I’m taking a leap forward with my skull series, painting each one on silverleaf for the rest of 2024. I’ve been painting these 4x5” skulls in oil for years now and been able to see them shipped all over the world. The skull has always been something I’ve been interested in painting, especially in-between working on larger paintings. For me the skull represents a kind of grounded starting point, a shared symbol of what it is to be human, something that was contemplated in catacombs and ossuaries for thousands of years. As a memento mori it’s a counselor for life, encouraging us to delight in action before it’s too late. These ship free and each is framed and ready to hang.
